I created Traction as an exploration of momentum—how individual elements, working together, generate movement and progress. Although the sculpture is static, I wanted it to convey continuous energy, drawing the viewer's eye inward through a spiraling composition that appears to be in motion.

The sculpture is fabricated from more than 300 individual steel components. Each piece is carefully positioned within the overall structure, creating a form that changes dramatically as it is viewed from different angles. As light and shadow shift across the surfaces, the sculpture reveals new patterns, reinforcing the illusion of movement and depth.

To me, Traction is about more than physical motion. It reflects the idea that meaningful progress is rarely the result of a single action. Instead, it is built through the accumulation of many individual efforts, each contributing to something larger than itself.

Installed at the Patrick Heath Public Library in Boerne, Texas, the sculpture celebrates curiosity, discovery, and the momentum created through learning. Like knowledge itself, it continues to unfold as viewers move around it, revealing new perspectives with every step.

A Personal Note

I've always been fascinated by how simple, repeated forms can come together to create something far more complex than the individual pieces themselves. Traction reminds me that progress—whether in art, learning, or life—is built one step at a time. It's the accumulation of small efforts that ultimately creates momentum.
