Serenity Sphere

Serenity Sphere explores the relationship between mass, movement, and interaction. Constructed from more than 375 linear feet of 3½-inch stainless steel tubing, the sculpture appears substantial and immovable, yet responds effortlessly to the touch.

Achieving that balance required careful engineering and extensive hand craftsmanship. While CAD was used to design the internal armature and precision-machined components, each tubular element was individually formed, then carefully cut, fitted, and finished to create the precise geometry of the sphere. Every exposed tube end was capped with a custom-shaped steel insert, welded, and meticulously blended until it appeared to be formed from a single continuous piece.

As the sphere turns, overlapping forms continually reveal new patterns of light, shadow, and texture. Each rotation offers a different composition, inviting viewers to engage with the work and become part of its ever-changing character.

A Personal Note

I've always enjoyed the challenge of creating movement where it isn't expected. Although Serenity Sphere weighs nearly a ton, it responds to the lightest touch. Watching people discover that simple interaction has become one of my favorite parts of the sculpture.
